1. Short Reports
A short report tends to be somewhere between five and 20 pages long and gives an in depth insight into a small part of a topic. They are usually used for action plans to solve a specific problem such as "How to Stop Your Cat from Scratching your Furniture", "How to Lose 10lbs by Valentine's Day" or "How to Stop Red Wine from Ruining your Carpet".
Short reports are usually saved as PDF files and then sold as a digital download. You can make more money from short reports by creating a number of reports and selling them as a series.
2. eBooks
If you have a larger topic to cover than suits a short report you might consider packaging your information up into an eBook. Again these are generally saved as PDFs and sold as a digital download and can be anywhere from 30 pages to 200 pages long.
Buyers will pay more for an eBook than a short report, and you can charge more still if you offer an audio or video version of the content, you could even supplement your eBook with a number of short reports on a related topic.
3. Physical products
Creating physical products allows you to put something tangible into the hands of your customers. They are usually marketed as home study courses and could include a workbook, a DVD or an audio CD. Of course there are production costs involved here because you need to print and ship the products, but you can demand a higher price which should cover your costs and still allow you to make a profit.
If you already have a series of eBooks or short reports then a service like LuLu will enable you to take those digital products and offer them as tangible books that can be printed on demand and shipped direct to your customer's door.
4. Membership sites
Over time you might write a number of short reports and eBooks and feel that you have enough information to create a membership site where you can provide new content to your members month after month. Now instead of making that one time sale you can earn a continuous income from your information products.
A membership site doesn't have to be overly complicated to set up, in fact all you really need is an autoresponder service that you can use to send an email with the content attached directly to the inboxes of your members.
